Iran War: Saudi Arabia Shuts Down One Of The World’s Largest Oil Refineries

Saudi Aramco has suspended operations at its Ras Tanura refinery in Saudi Arabia following reports of a drone strike in the vicinity, Reuters reports.

Ras Tanura, one of the largest oil refining and export facilities in the world, has a refining capacity of roughly 550,000 barrels per day and serves as the kingdom’s largest oil export terminal.

The facility handles approximately 6.5 million barrels of crude daily nearly 7% of global oil supply flows through this single site.

Reports indicate the attack was carried out by Iran amid rising regional tensions, affecting critical Aramco infrastructure.

Following the strike, a fire reportedly broke out in the refinery’s processing complex.

Authorities say the blaze has been contained, and no casualties have been confirmed.

Recall that series of strikes by the US and Israel against Iran began Saturday, 28th February, 2026.

Israel And US Launch Attack On Iran

Israeli and U.S. forces have launched a coordinated military strike on Iran, with multiple explosions reported across Tehran and other Iranian cities.

Al Jazeera reports that a US official informed it that the attacks were carried out as a joint military operation between Israel and the United States.

Iran’s state-affiliated Fars News Agency said several missiles hit University Street and the Jomhouri area in central Tehran, sending plumes of smoke into the air.

Semiofficial Tasnim News Agency also reported additional explosions in the northern Seyyed Khandan district of the city.

Other Iranian media outlets said strikes were also recorded in parts of the country, including Ilam province in the west.

US President Donald Trump confirmed that the operation was aimed at “eliminating imminent threats from the Iranian regime.”

“Short time ago, US military began major combat operation in Iran.

“Our objective is to defend the American people by eliminating threats from the Iranian regime,” Trump said.

Israel’s Defence Minister Israel Katz on his part said the missile strikes were launched to “remove threats to the State of Israel.”
