Gabriel Agbonlahor tells Chelsea to sack Graham Potter over post-match remarks

Former Aston Villa star, Gabriel Agbonlahor has asked Chelsea to sack Graham Potter over his post-match comment after Chelsea’s shock 1-0 defeat to Southampton on Saturday, February 18.

Chelsea’s inability to get a win in the match has left them languishing in 10th place, with 10 points adrift from the Premier League top four.

Potter who spoke to reporters after the match, said they were forced to make changes after their 1-0 Champions League defeat to Borussia Dortmund.

He said;

“You have to see it for what it is. We had to make some changes because of the Champions League.

“We’ve had to make some changes because of the situation we’re in and boys coming back from injury. When you make those changes, it can be difficult against a team that is well prepared.”

Agbonlahor however accused Potter of only “complaining.” He told talkSPORT;

“He should be sacked for that post-match interview.

“What are you talking about? They haven’t got a manager, you’re playing a team in disarray who can’t get back-to-back wins together.

“You’re complaining that you’ve had to bring Mykhailo Mudryk off the bench and start Joao Felix? Are you joking me?

“Poor Graham! Poor you, Graham… Wow… I think as well… There is an English bias.”

He said;

“There are always questions if you don’t get the results. I was under pressure after two defeats before the World Cup break – and that is from the media. In terms of the board, I’ve had full support but I am not naive. If anybody that I work for thinks the problem lies with me then they have every right to say, ‘Thank you very much but it’s not working’. I accept that.”

When asked if the players were still committed to his ideas, Potter said;

“From what I see, they are professional, responsible, and honest. We’re in a bad moment and we’ve got challenges, everyone suffers from that point. January is always complicated no matter where you are because the window is open and human beings are human beings, but I don’t see any problems in that regard. I have the support of the boys and they have mine. We just need to keep working.”

Graham Potter discusses the potential signing of Cristiano Ronaldo by Chelsea.

When the transfer window opens in January, Chelsea Football Club will be eager to add more players.

Graham Potter, the Blues’ head coach, was questioned about whether Todd Boehly had informed him that Cristiano Ronaldo might join the team. On Saturday, October 22, 2022, the Englishman was talking after the match against the Red Devils.

During the summer transfer window, Ronaldo was connected to Chelsea, but Thomas Tuchel, the club’s former manager, had no interest in bringing the Portuguese player to London.

Due to the incident that occurred during the match against Tottenham, the 37-year-old and Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag have not been on the best of terms.
