Yılmaz turns provider, Osimhen finishes the job

Yılmaz turned provider in the 62nd minute, sending in a precise delivery that Yunus Akgün converted from close range to double the lead.

Osimhen put the result beyond doubt 11 minutes later. The striker collected the ball just outside the area, skipped past the goalkeeper with composure and finished into an empty net from a narrow angle to cap a dominant performance from Okan Buruk’s side.

Title push gathers momentum

The win keeps Galatasaray top of the Super Lig standings with 52 points from 21 matches. They sit six points clear of second-placed Fenerbahçe, who have a game in hand, and seven ahead of Trabzonspor in third.

Osimhen’s goal tally now stands at nine in the league this season, underlining his importance in Galatasaray’s push for a fourth consecutive Super Lig title.

The Super Eagles forward will look to add to that total when Galatasaray host Eyüpspor in their next league fixture on Friday.

Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen continued his blistering form with a standout performance on Wednesday night, scoring twice as Galatasaray cruised to a 3-1 win over Bodø/Glimt in the UEFA Champions League.

The Nigerian star, who had earlier during the day been shortlisted for the 2025 CAF Player of the Year award, produced a stunning display that proved his growing reputation as a big-game performer under manager Okan Buruk.

Record-breaking run in Europe

The brace extended Osimhen’s scoring streak to seven consecutive European matches, setting a new club record for Galatasaray.

UCL: Osimhen strike sinks Liverpool in Istanbul

Victor Osimhen was the difference on a thunderous Champions League night as Galatasaray handed Liverpool their second successive defeat.

The Nigerian forward struck from the penalty spot in the 16th minute after Dominik Szoboszlai fouled Baris Alper Yilmaz, punishing the Premier League champions in front of a deafening RAMS Park crowd.

The goal came seconds after Davinson Sanchez had denied Cody Gakpo with a clearance off the line, swinging the tide firmly Galatasaray’s way.

Slot’s gamble backfires as Reds toil

Liverpool coach Arne Slot chose to start without Mohamed Salah, hoping to spark a reaction after the weekend loss at Crystal Palace.

But the decision misfired, with Salah and Alexander Isak only introduced after the hour mark to little effect.

Alisson kept Liverpool in the contest with several big saves, including one from Osimhen, before limping off injured.

A late chance to level disappeared when Ibrahima Konate’s penalty claim was overturned by VAR, silencing brief celebrations.

Reds exposed under pressure

Liverpool once again looked fragile at the back, their expensively assembled attack failing to leave a mark.

Florian Wirtz was anonymous, while Hugo Ekitike added to the problems by departing injured.

The result leaves Slot’s side facing early questions in Europe despite sitting top of the Premier League.

They face Chelsea next in the Premier League this weekend.

Victor Osimhen Is Still In Pain — Galatasaray Manager Reveals

Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk has disclosed that Victor Osimhen is still struggling with pain from an injury picked up during international duty with Nigeria but is expected to make a return to action soon.

The 26-year-old striker picked up the knock last week while representing the Super Eagles and immediately returned to Turkey for treatment. Galatasaray confirmed his situation in a statement on their official website.

Osimhen was unavailable for the Yellow and Reds’ 2-0 victory over Eyupspor on Saturday, but Buruk remains optimistic about his recovery ahead of their crucial UEFA Champions League opener.

“Osimhen’s condition will be determined within a few days. We’re hopeful he’ll play. We think he will, but of course, he’s in pain,” Buruk told the club’s official media.

Galatasaray face Eintracht Frankfurt away on Thursday in their first Champions League group stage match of the season, and Buruk will be eager to have his star forward available.

Osimhen, who joined Galatasaray from Napoli this summer in a high-profile transfer, is seen as central to the Turkish champions’ European ambitions. He arrived after a successful spell in Serie A, where he fired Napoli to their first Scudetto in 33 years in 2023 and won the African Footballer of the Year award.

His fitness will be closely monitored in the coming days, with Nigerian fans also anxious about his availability ahead of next month’s World Cup qualifiers.

‘Far above national economy’ – Fenerbahce legend slams Galatasaray over Osimhen’s deal

Fenerbahce legend Umit Ozat has raised serious financial concerns over Galatasaray’s record-breaking acquisition of Victor Osimhen, describing the deal as unsustainable and disproportionate to Turkey’s economic reality.

Speaking on SkySpor’s YouTube channel, Ozat questioned how any Turkish club could justify splashing such staggering sums, even for a player of Osimhen’s quality.

“Can you say that signing Osimhen was a bad thing? No. But the cost is far above the national economy,” Ozat stated.

“Osimhen is a valuable, high-quality, and great player, but for our clubs, these amounts are a lot of money.”

Galatasaray paid €75 million to secure the Nigerian striker from Napoli, the most expensive transfer in Turkish football history.

Osimhen will reportedly earn €15 million per season, with an additional €1 million in loyalty bonuses and €5 million in image rights annually.

Ozat clarified he would have criticized such financial outlay even if Fenerbahce had made the move.

“I don’t envy the transfer. These amounts of money shouldn’t be given lightly. I hope they can come up with the money,” he added.

Osimhen has already joined pre-season training with Galatasaray as the club gears up for the 2025–26 campaign.
