Ronaldo is surpassed by Messi in another stat.

The results for Paris Saint-Germain over the past week can mostly be attributed to Lionel Messi, who has had an incredible start to the current campaign.

The Argentine scored the lone goal in PSG’s victory against Lyon. After scoring a goal and an assist in the Paris club’s 3-1 victory over Maccabi Haifa in the Champions League midweek.

Messi has now scored six goals and sent out eight assists in 11 games this season after both games, and his goal last night helped him past Cristiano Ronaldo in the statistic.

With 672 goals overall, one more than the Manchester United forward, Messi now holds the record for most non-penalty goals scored in a career.

Not only did Messi break this milestone this week, but he also became the first player to score in 18 straight Champions League seasons with his goal against Maccabi Haifa.

With that goal, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner also surpassed Ronaldo once more in terms of the number of opponents he has scored against in Champions League history, to the tune of 39.

The fact that Messi is still setting records and playing at his present level at the age of 35 should thrill Argentinians as they prepare for a crucial World Cup for the greatest player in the history of the sport.
