Pasuma: Why I Gave Up Football to Pursue Music

Pasuma, a seasoned Nigerian musician, has shared his reasons for giving up football in favor of music.

He claimed that when his attempt to make the Nigerian team for the 1985 FIFA U-16 World Championship in China was unsuccessful, he switched to music.

This was revealed by the Fuji musician during a recent interview with Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo.

He stated that once his World Cup dream fell through, he was instantly inspired to pursue music by the worldwide success of Wasiu Ayinde’s 1984 record, “Talazo ’84.”

Pasuma stated, “The album ‘Talazo ’84’ was released by Alhaji King Wasiu Ayinde in 1984.” Globally, the album was widely distributed.

Since I played football, I made the decision to pursue a career in music. CODAK 85, the 1985 FIFA U-16 World Championship, was invited to me. Four players, including me, were chosen from a club in Shogunle.

“I regretfully chose not to play in the World Cup, which is when I decided to pursue a career in music.

“I played football professionally. That’s how I got started with music. The remainder is now history.
