Under interim coach Calum McFarlane, Chelsea executed a disciplined game plan and were rewarded after Tijjani Reijnders’ first-half goal had put the hosts on course for victory.
Manchester City controlled long spells and created the clearer openings, with Erling Haaland striking the post and forcing a sharp save from Filip Jorgensen before Reijnders broke the deadlock just before half-time.
