The United States has denied involvement in the de@th of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, with Pentagon officials saying he was k!lled by an Israeli strike and not as part of an American military operation.
Pentagon top official, Elbridge Colby, said that the Iranian leader was k!lled as a result of an Israeli attack.
Colby told the Senate Armed Services Committee that the strike which k!lled Khamenei and other top Iranian leaders was not part of the U.S. military campaign.
Colby said, “Those are Israeli operations,” as he pushed back when lawmakers asked if changing the regime was a goal of U.S. actions.
This appeared to have contradicted President Donald Trump’s earlier comment when he said Khamenei could not get around the U.S. intelligence and advanced tracking systems.
He also mentioned that, along with other leaders who were k!lled, Khamenei and others did not have much control because the US was working closely with Israel.
However, Colby said the main targets were Iran’s missile capabilities, which have increased a lot, along with their ability to build those weapons and parts of their navy.
He said those goals were “doable and reasonable targets that can be achieved.”
US and Israel attacks on Iran over the weekend k!lled Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Khamenei d!ed alongside his daughter, grandchild, son-in-law, and daughter-in-law were also k!lled in the strike.
The Israeli army said that Ali Shamkhani, a top advisor to Khamenei, and the head of Iran’s powerful Revolutionary Guards, General Mohammad Pakpour, were also k!lled in the strikes.
US said that over 49 top officials of the Iranian military have been taken out so far.
