”I had to…..” – Man returns millions of Naira mistakenly credited to his account, shares why he rejected ₦50k appreciation gift

A Nigerian man has shared why he rejected ₦50,000 appreciation gift after returning ₦2.2 million mistakenly credited to his Opay account.

The man, identified as Aliyu Tunde Muhammad Elyaqub on Facebook, disclosed that the erroneous transfer occurred on April 3, 2025, while using his phone.

‎Man Returns ₦2.2 million

According to the Facebook user, the individual reached out to him, appearing confused and stammering.

During the phone call with the individual, he burst into laughter.

‎However, he refunded the money and sent a receipt of the transaction to the individual, whose identity wasn’t disclosed.

‎ Subsequently, he received ₦50,000 from the same individual, but refunded it, emphasizing that he didn’t want to be paid for doing the right thing.

‎ In his now-viral Facebook post, he stated that kindness shouldn’t come with a price tag.

‎”The amount is a big percentage of my monthly salary but because I believe I don’t have to be paid for being kind, and of course for doing what I must do. He called and was appreciating me like I liberate him from going to hell”, The post reads.

‎According to the Facebook user, Fintech accounts are secured, and most of them are insured by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC.
