The recent rejuvenation of Manchester United have met football fan with different expectations. The red devils started the recently concluded season slowly but became a force to be wary of towards the end of the season. The team has witnessed drastic changes and a complete change in mentality and overall play since the signing of Portuguese playmaker Bruno Fernandes with their latest achievement being qualification for next season’s UEFA champions League.
Much more is however expected from the team next season as the fans are hoping to see the team contend for the Premier League alongside other heavyweights. The team looks almost ready but they must improve in certain departments before being considered a Premier League contender. The team can be an unstoppable force if they improve the following departments and sign the fitting players
LB position: This is one position that has been graced by inconsistency and low quality. The frequently injured Luke Shaw has been the most preferred LB but the position needs change now. To compete for the PL, you need the services of World class or decent full backs/wingbacks that are consistent and can stay fit for as long as possible.
Four players are the most fitting for this department. Bayern’s Alphonso Davies, Milan’s Theo Hernandez, Leicester’s Ben Chilwell and Real Madrid’s Sergio Reguilón. While the transfers of the first two players may be difficult and seemingly impossible, the Transfer of the other two players look much more feasible.
Reguilón was one of Spain’s best LB after a successful loan spell at Sevilla in the just concluded season helping the team qualify for the UCL. The player had a sofascore rating of 7.0 and was his team’s best assist provider behind Ever Banega and Jesús Navas. He could be a decent addition to the United team and a long-term solution to their LB crisis as he is just 23.
Ben Chilwell can also be a solution to the LB problem. The English LB had a stellar season with Leicester City helping them qualify for the Europa League. Chilwell could add a lot to United with his speed and attacking prowess. He is however not as good in defence as Sergio Reguilón. The latter could be the best solution to the problem but Chilwell is also a decent solution as he has a sofascore rating of 6.95.
Centre Back: Manchester United needs a player who could bring Quality, Balance and Solidity to this department. In other words, they need a player that could bring the Van Dijk effect to the team. No other player comes to mind other than Napoli’s Kalidou Coulibaly. The World class Senegalese CB could bring in the needed qualities with his power, passing, tackling and coordination. United may have to lock horns with their rivals City to secure his signing.
Jadon Sancho seems to be the priority signing for United this window. According to Journalist, Fabrizio Romano, as reported via his Twitter account @FabrizioRomano, The deal has been agreed between United and the player. The clubs have however not reached an agreement as Dortmund are insisting on €120m transfer fees. The two clubs are confident they will reach an agreement soon. The player can bring a lot of competition and dynamism to an attack that already has Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood.
United can also look to strengthen their Goalkeeping department with the addition of Goalkeepers like Dean Henderson or David Soria who have been outstanding for their respective clubs in the just concluded season.
