The Old barriers to old music as been replaced thanks to new music technology, and the industry that was once one sided is turning into a balanced level for upcoming acts as well.
The new music industry is an exciting place for musicians and when we say Change solves old problems, it also births new ones.
Since the birth of the new music industry, we have seen different lawsuits and lobbying regarding different sections in the entire music industry. And that certainly holds the truth that the New Music Industry also has its own problems.
In this article, we take a look at some challenges musicians face and provide my own opinion on how to go about solving these issues.
The Social Media
Everyone now thinks once you are internet famous, once people start talking about you and you start to trend, then the upcoming musician is rich and not lacking.
The truth is the Social media gives an avenue for you to get a bigger audience and get recognitions so bigger Labels could tap one up. It has happened and still happening
The sad truth is that having a big social media follows of 500,000 doesn’t guarantee you have a sold out concert when you announce your shows or quarter of those same followers would buy your songs when you drop your them on digital platforms.
It is important to know that humans don’t leave by the internet alone and managing your social media promotion is more than just gaining followers.
In my opinion : Musicians who don’t just want to be internet famous should try putting same energy on offline promotion as well as leveraging audiences who actually attend the shows.
The Music Publishers needs to be paid more
Looking at the percentage between what the label owners earn from various streaming platforms is way less less than what music publishers earn.
There is no music and no recordings to be made of music without the creation of a musical composition first. When music publishers earn less, automatically songwriters earn lesser to nothing.
These record labels should try and see the facts that creatives are the ones doing most of the jobs here while all they do is put in that extra push they need.
In my opinion; Creatives need to be rewarded handsomely and this should be recognized by anyone who values and loves music in their life.
About any blown artist now would tell you that bulk of thier money comes from live music.
It’s true that going on different tours generates in huge cash flow, but there is one major holdup to it which is, to go on tour, you need money and lots of it.
Before you could sell CD of your tape to raise funds, but with that all but gone, how can musicians pay for tours?
Upcoming acts out even means to support their selves, from taking Day Jobs, to keep avaings on money earned from shows, making sales on merchandise and counting. But let’s not forget these peeps are upcoming, and how much can we pay to see them perform?
In my opinion; musicians should try using the weekend approach to do tours while shifting between thier daily jobs, and try share costs with bands while while heading out.
Consumers Needs to know the value of Good Music
On a daily basis you see people who want to use your music for free while they gain the presence the seek. They say they are helping underground artist gain from promotion and backend sales. Meanwhile this isn’t true because these backend money aren’t paid as promised.
Companies wants to pay less or free and take the huge share of the money. Thereby enriching thier pockets and leaving the underground artist searching for funds to promote their music all over again.
Being a musician means you have a team you can fall on to do various task to make sure you have a large audience that really loyal. These teams include PR, AGENTS, MANAGERS and so much more.
For upcoming artists, you know your presence doesn’t allow you have access to these teams for are high up there. So you fall back on the one who you know are your level and build a team having that goal to be famous. It’s always a win-win situation.
To all upcoming trying all their best to become who they have being looking up to, this year will be a good start for you.
