Funke Akindele-Bello and her husband, AbdulRasheed Bello popularly known JJC Skillz have been arraigned before a Lagos court.
She was arraigned in court for defiling the orders of the Lagos state government which had ordered Lagosians to stay at home. The Nollywood actress posted a video explaining how sad she felt about the situation but still got arrested for disobeying the rules.
After reading the charges brought before them by the Magistrate, Yewande Aje-Afunwa, Akindele and her husband both pleaded guilty.
The magistrate then took a ten-minute break before giving her verdict.
Funke Akindele was arrested by men of the Nigeria Police Force on Sunday, April 5, 2020, for organising a house party despite the lockdown order issued by the government. The court found them guilty and sentenced the couple to 14days of community service and fine of #100,000 each .
Following Funke Akindele’s arrest NCDC has come out to say she is not their ambassador after she starred in a television campaign where she enlightened the public on Covid-19 preventive measures such as hand washing. The brand (Detol) totally distanced themselves from any ambassadorship deal with the Nollywood actress .
Dettol Nigeria stated that “we have been made aware through social media that Funke Akindele recently, acting in her personal capacity, had a celebration which is against the caution to the public on social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic.The NCDC partnered with Dettol on a public service message to educate our communities about preventive measures against COVID-19. Funke is not a brand ambassador of the NCDC,the company emphasized.Dettol Nigeria added that “as a responsible organization and brand, Dettol does not condone any breach of the guidelines on COVID-19.As an organization, we are concerned at the turn of events. We will continue to support NCDC and the Nigerian government to fight COVID-19.”
