Seun Kuti one of the sons of Legendary Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, has expressed his reservations about the ongoing #EndSars protest on Instagram.
Seun Kuti who also came out to call for an end to police brutality and the special anti robbery squad doesn’t think the #5for5 demand from protesters is strong enough, he said ‘it is too weak’ which is why he is reluctant to get involved. He stated that the demands made by Nigerian youths in the #5for5 list of demands is “too weak” which is why he’s reluctant to get involved in the current protest.
Seun said the police are adults and if they are not satisfied with their salary they can protest or go on strike because they are adults and the protest is just like fighting for a better life for the officers. He stated
“It’s like we’re fighting for police to live a better life,It is not the duty of Nigerians to fight for police to have better salary. If police don’t like their salary and welfare, let them strike and protest.Increasing police salary will not stop police corruption,If money dey stop corruption, why our politicians still dey thief? Everybody is being extorted at every level in this country every day.”
Seun Kuti went on to say alot of people are only fighting for their affluence in what could be directed at yahoo boys,he said a lot of people want to drive Benz peacefully without police harassment but do not see or care about problems that affect poorer and powerless Nigerians.
He also called for an end to NURTW because they extort okada riders, bus drivers and even market woman which is why the #5for5 demands doesn’t really work for him and stated clearly nobody can drag him to the current agitation because it’s not serious enough.
